Downtown

The weather really has become quite predictable; Hot Sunny and Clear, up into the mid 80’s.

As usual, we hung around the campground in the morning. Had to remove all lawn ornaments (we have 3 flags / banners) and tie downs from the grass as it was grass cutting day. Also had to get the propane tank filled. Since I did the maths a couple of months ago and started using electricity for the fridge and hot water tank, refilling the propane has gone from a weekly to monthly event, we also save a fair bit of money!

I got a new app working on the phone, a pedometer, so we could see how far we were walking.

After lunch we had to get some stuff from the grocery store so we decided to go to downtown Foley as well. Unlike some of the previous places we have visited, there is not really much of an historic downtown area. We first visited the Antique Rose Walk which was a pathway through rose gardens showing a number of different species of roses created over the years.

Next stop was a sewing shop, unfortunately it was one that carried out alterations and not a craft type as someone had hoped. On the way back from there we passed a store that was an “Old Tyme Soda Fountain” Inside it lived up to the Old Tyme very well, the cash register and music together with a lot of other items were straight out of the ’60’s. Neither of us really felt trying the standard fare which is Ice Cream floating on a Coke or Root beer so we settled for an Ice Cream instead. Last time I was in a store like that was in Whitby Ont in 1967!

Finally we headed back to the truck via the old Foley Railway Station which is now a museum.

Finally a very happy 60th Wedding Anniversary to Mum & Dad, sorry we couldn’t be there but I’ve just bought the tickets for July!
