The Great Hike

Just to keep my sister happy, there will be no mention of food in this entry!!

This morning we just hung around doing odd jobs, then after lunch  1PM we headed south to a conservation area to follow one of their hiking trails. The one we planned suggested we allow 45 – 60 minutes for the hike. We found the place, parked the car and headed out on the trail. It was a sandy path initially through scrub land. The path turned to grass and eventually led down to a small stream. We carried on around the trail, and back onto sand. Things started to look familiar, and very soon we were back to the start………… 12 minutes later, and that time included two deviations off the trail!

As the walk was so quick we did it again, this time in reverse to make sure we hadn’t missed anything… we hadn’t. They must be really slow walkers down here.

On the way back to the campsite we saw a lot of dense smoke ahead of us. As we approached the police were slowing us down, as it turns out this was because of the reduced visibility rather than any accident. As we got closer to the smoke we could see that it was caused by a large scrub fire just off the road, it looked pretty intense with flames rising 10-15 ft into the air.

Final stop was at the local RV store. During the day it gets quite breezy around here, and the awning catches the winds and shakes it support arms quite a bit. Many of the trailers we have seen had straps from the awning supports to pegs in the ground to reduce the movement. We picked up a kit and headed out.

When we got back I installed the kit, and the whole structure is a lot more stable and quieter when the wind gets up.
