The Lost / Forgotten State

Another early start at 0730 (would have been later but someone neglected to check the time on the alarm clock when they set it, and it was 15mins fast).

We left Kentucky and almost immediately crossed into Tennessee. The scenery remained much the same with rolling hills in Tennessee, but we hit our first traffic jam heading into Nashville as we were there at the tail end of rush-hour. The next major city was Memphis and then we crossed into Arkansas. We should have known things would be different in a State where they can’t even pronounce the name correctly (how do you get “Arkansaw” from Arkansas ?) The scenery went from rolling hills to flat and boring. The roads were in poor condition compared to previous states and there was virtually no towns off the interstate for the first couple of hours. The overall impression we got was that of a State that had somehow got “forgotten”.

When we got to our destination, Hope, there was actually something about the place we recognised…. Bill Clinton was born here… ’nuff said!

The better news is the temperature hit 20c, diesel prices are lower and our average fuel consumption is 13mpg.

The Lone Star State awaits us
